JIX Multifunctional construction kit is an innovative modular construction system designed by visual artist and product designer Patrick Martinez that enables users to create diverse structures using standard drinking straws as building elements. The system consists of specially designed connectors that come in flat grids, which can be easily separated, intersected, and locked into place to form three-dimensional configurations. These connectors, made from recyclable post-industrial plastic, are engineered to accommodate standard drinking straws, allowing for the creation of everything from ambitious room-sized installations to intricate tabletop sculptures. The design emerged from Martinez's artistic practice and his interest in dematerialization and spatial exploration, particularly focusing on creating density from fragility. Each package contains 125 connector elements arranged in five grids of 25 pieces each, with individual connectors measuring 31 mm x 23 mm x 6 mm. The system's innovative design approach, which simplified complex early prototypes into intersecting flat shapes that form 3D star configurations, not only made mass production more feasible but also significantly reduced packaging requirements.
