James Foley

James Foley was an American journalist who gained international recognition for his coverage of conflicts in the Middle East. He was born on October 18, 1973, in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in New Hampshire. Foley graduated from Marquette University in 1996 with a degree in history. He went on to work as a teacher in Arizona before turning to journalism. Foley began his career as a freelance journalist, covering conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. He was known for his bravery and dedication to reporting on the front lines of war zones. In 2012, Foley was kidnapped in Syria while reporting on the Syrian Civil War. He was held captive for two years by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) before being brutally executed in August 2014. Foley's death shocked the world and drew attention to the dangers faced by journalists covering conflicts in the Middle East. Foley's legacy lives on through the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, which was established by his family to advocate for the safe return of American hostages and the protection of journalists working in conflict zones. The foundation also provides support and resources to families of hostages and advocates for government policies that prioritize the safety of journalists and aid workers.
