Jaeren Residential Apartment

Jaeren Residential Apartment

Jaeren Residential Apartment is a distinguished residential interior design project located on the west coast of Norway, exemplifying a masterful blend of contemporary design with preserved emotional connections to family heritage. The project, completed in June 2022, represents a thoughtful transformation of a grandparental apartment into a modern living space that honors its coastal location and familial significance. Designed by Gudbjorg Simonsen, the interior architecture draws profound inspiration from the distinctive landscape of Jaeren, known for its beautiful beaches, signature stone fences, and unique mistful light that has historically captivated artists. The design philosophy emphasizes raw, natural materials interpreted through a contemporary lens, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly integrate the exterior environment with the interior spaces. The apartment's layout demonstrates sophisticated space planning, with a flowing arrangement of interconnected zones including a welcoming hall, an open-concept lounge, and a bar-style kitchen with curved Corian walls that echo the curved sofa opposite. Notable design elements include a grand fireplace that serves as a central focal point, paying homage to the original home while establishing a new emotional resonance. The color palette employs deep, intimate tones contrasted with fresh green velvet accents, while innovative lighting solutions serve both functional and artistic purposes, reflecting the unique quality of Jaeren's natural light. The master suite features a distinctive leather-clad gable, contributing to the overall atmosphere of sophisticated comfort. This award-winning project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases exceptional attention to detail in its use of local craftsmanship and materials, creating a space that successfully bridges generational transitions while maintaining functional elegance and emotional depth.
