Jacqueline Groag

Jacqueline Groag was a prominent textile and pattern designer who made a significant impact on the design world during the mid-20th century. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1903, she studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna before moving to Prague to work as a textile designer. She later moved to England in 1939, where she continued her career in design, working for companies such as David Whitehead Ltd. and Edinburgh Weavers. Groag's designs were characterized by bold colors, geometric patterns, and a modernist aesthetic. Her work was highly innovative and experimental, incorporating a wide range of techniques and materials, including screen printing, block printing, and embroidery. She was also known for her collaborations with architects and interior designers, creating bespoke designs for hotels, offices, and public spaces. Despite her significant contributions to the world of design, Groag's work was often overshadowed by her male contemporaries. However, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in her work, with several exhibitions and publications highlighting her achievements.
