Ismael Nery

Ismael Nery was a Brazilian artist and designer who is considered a pioneer of modern Brazilian art and design. He was born in 1900 and died at a young age of 33 in 1934. Nery's work is characterized by a unique blend of cubism and expressionism, creating a distinct visual language that has made him one of the most respected figures in Brazilian art. He was not only an artist but also a designer, responsible for creating some of the first Brazilian logos and branding. He was a founding member of the Brazilian Association of Plastic Arts and a mentor to many young Brazilian artists and designers. Nery's work was heavily influenced by his interest in philosophy, particularly the works of Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. He believed that art should be a means of expressing the innermost thoughts and emotions of the artist, and that it should be free from any external constraints. His paintings often featured dreamlike landscapes and surreal imagery, reflecting his interest in the subconscious mind and the mysteries of the human psyche. Despite his short career, Nery's work has had a significant impact on Brazilian art and design. His legacy continues to inspire artists and designers in Brazil and around the world, and his work is still highly respected and admired.
