Interlining Materials
Interlining materials are fabrics or non-woven materials that are used to provide structure, support, and shape to garments, accessories, and home decor items. They are typically sandwiched between the main fabric and the lining, and can be made from a variety of fibers, including cotton, wool, silk, polyester, and nylon. The primary function of interlining materials is to improve the drape, body, and overall appearance of the finished item. They can also be used to add warmth, insulation, and water resistance to garments. Interlining materials come in a range of weights and thicknesses, from lightweight fusible interfacings to heavy-duty canvas and horsehair. Interlining materials can be categorized into three main types: fusible, sew-in, and adhesive. Fusible interlinings are coated with a heat-activated adhesive that is activated by pressing with an iron. Sew-in interlinings are attached to the main fabric by stitching, and are often used in more structured garments such as jackets and coats. Adhesive interlinings are similar to fusible interlinings, but are applied using a special adhesive spray instead of heat. In addition to their functional properties, interlining materials can also be used to add decorative elements to a garment or accessory. For example, a lace interlining can be used to add a delicate, feminine touch to a dress, while a metallic interlining can add a touch of glamour to a jacket or handbag. Overall, interlining materials are an essential component of many sewing projects, providing structure, support, and style to a wide range of items.
