InPark Secret Community Garden
InPark Secret Community Garden is an innovative urban transformation project that reimagines a former hardpaved ball court into a versatile public space in Hong Kong's Kwun Tong district, exemplifying contemporary approaches to urban regeneration and community-focused design. This thoughtfully conceived garden, completed in 2019, spans 8,480 square meters and serves as a vital breathing space within a dense commercial district, featuring a gently sloped central green lawn that creates an organic contrast to the surrounding urban architecture. The design incorporates multiple functional zones including a half basketball court, a multi-purpose stage, shelters, exhibition kiosks, and essential facilities, all carefully integrated to create a seamless transition between different spatial experiences. A distinguishing feature of the garden is its celebration of local industrial heritage through seven carefully curated public art installations, which serve as interactive elements that commemorate the area's manufacturing history. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to environmental consideration through its incorporation of native trees that provide seasonal color variations and create natural boundaries, while metal screens and translucent glass louvers are employed to delineate spaces and enhance the transitional experience between semi-open and semi-enclosed areas. The garden's design philosophy emphasizes the integration of urban context with organic landscaping forms, successfully transforming an underutilized space into a dynamic community hub that adapts to contemporary lifestyle needs. This achievement has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the City Planning and Urban Design category, acknowledging its contribution to urban planning excellence and community engagement. The project's success lies in its ability to create a multifunctional space that serves as both a recreational facility and a cultural landmark, while effectively responding to the evolving needs of the local community and catalyzing positive transformation in the surrounding urban fabric.
