Ingroup Bias
Ingroup bias refers to the tendency of individuals to favor and show preference towards members of their own group over those who are not part of their group. This bias can manifest in various forms, such as favoring people who share similar beliefs, values, or interests, or those who belong to the same social, cultural, or ethnic group. Ingroup bias can be observed in various settings, including workplaces, schools, sports teams, and social groups. One of the key factors that contribute to ingroup bias is social identity theory, which suggests that individuals tend to derive their sense of self-worth and identity from the groups they belong to. As a result, people are more likely to show favoritism towards members of their own group as a way of enhancing their own self-esteem and social status. Ingroup bias can also be reinforced by social norms and expectations, such as the belief that one should prioritize the needs and interests of their own group over others. Ingroup bias can have both positive and negative consequences. On the positive side, it can foster a sense of belonging and solidarity within a group, and can lead to increased cooperation and collaboration among group members. However, on the negative side, ingroup bias can lead to discrimination, prejudice, and conflict between different groups, and can perpetuate social inequalities and injustices. To mitigate the negative effects of ingroup bias, it is important to promote intergroup contact and communication, and to encourage individuals to recognize and challenge their own biases and assumptions. By fostering empathy, understanding, and respect for diversity, we can create more inclusive and equitable societies that celebrate and value the contributions of all individuals, regardless of their group membership.

Ingroup Bias
Ingroup bias is the tendency to favour people who belong to the same group as us, or who share our beliefs. It is a natural human reaction that we are likely to have when we interact with people who are similar to us. For example, when an 8 year old child is playing a game with their friends, they may be more likely to pick the other children in their group first over any other children who are not in their group. This is called ingroup bias.
