Indian Design
The development of design in India is a complex and multifaceted process that is deeply rooted in the region's rich cultural and historical heritage. As a design historian from India with a background in art history, design theory, and cultural studies of India, I am particularly interested in exploring the evolution of design in the region and how it has been shaped by various socio-cultural and technological advancements. Over the centuries, Indian design has been influenced by various external forces, from the Mughal period to the British Raj, the impact of which can be seen in a variety of cultural and artistic forms ranging from architecture and furniture, to textiles and pottery. In addition, there has been an increasing influence of modern global design trends and technologies that have contributed to the evolution of design in India. The result of these various forces is a unique and diverse design culture that is rooted in the region's history, culture, and values.

Indian Design
Indian Design has evolved over the centuries, taking its cues from the aesthetic sensibilities of ancient Indian civilisations, through to the influences of the Mughal and British colonial periods, and finally to contemporary Indian design. In its earliest forms, Indian Design was characterised by the use of bold geometric and floral motifs, and the incorporation of traditional Indian materials such as stone, terracotta, and wood. During the Mughal period, local and foreign craftsmen combined to create a unique fusion of Indian and Persian design sensibilities, resulting in a style that was later known as Indo-Persian. Later, the introduction of European-style design elements saw the rise of a distinct colonial aesthetic, which combined both modern and traditional elements. Modern Indian Design, meanwhile, has seen a resurgence of traditional motifs and materials, alongside the emergence of new ideas and technologies, resulting in an ever-evolving visual language that reflects the complex cultural history of India.
