Incandescent Lamps

Incandescent lamps, also known as light bulbs, are a type of electric lamp that produce light by heating a filament wire until it glows. The filament is typically made of tungsten, which has a high melting point and is able to withstand the high temperatures required for incandescence. Incandescent lamps are one of the oldest and most common types of electric lighting, and have been used for over a century in homes, businesses, and public spaces. The basic design of an incandescent lamp consists of a glass bulb that contains a vacuum or inert gas, such as argon or nitrogen, to prevent the filament from oxidizing and burning out. The filament is connected to a metal base, which is screwed into a socket that provides electrical contact with the power source. When electricity flows through the filament, it heats up and emits light in the visible spectrum. The amount of light produced is proportional to the amount of electrical power consumed, and is measured in watts. Despite their widespread use, incandescent lamps have several drawbacks. They are relatively inefficient, converting only a small fraction of the electrical energy into visible light, with the rest being lost as heat. They also have a relatively short lifespan, typically lasting only a few thousand hours before the filament burns out. In addition, they are not well-suited for use in environments with high vibration or shock, as the filament is fragile and can break easily.
