Impar Flores Restaurant and Bar is an innovative hospitality design project located in Oporto's historic downtown area, exemplifying a masterful integration of industrial heritage with contemporary restaurant design. This architectural renovation, completed in 2017, transformed a narrow 70-square-meter space spanning two floors into a sophisticated dining establishment that harmoniously balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. The design's distinguishing feature is its centrally positioned bar counter, which serves as a focal point and cleverly divides the space while facilitating natural flow between two separate entrances. The interior design preserves and highlights original architectural elements, including exposed granite walls, while incorporating industrial-inspired elements such as metallic netting, iron structures, and strategic lighting fixtures. The space optimization strategy demonstrates exceptional ingenuity in utilizing limited dimensions of approximately 3.5 meters in width by 10 meters in depth per floor, successfully incorporating essential zones including kitchen, storage, facilities, bathroom, dining area, and bar. The establishment's aesthetic is characterized by a thoughtful combination of industrial elements and comfort-enhancing features, including dim lighting, large mirrors, wooden details, and fabric elements that create an intimate atmosphere. The innovative storage solution, featuring a metallic net structure above the bar that connects to the kitchen elevator, not only serves a practical purpose but also contributes to the space's industrial character while allowing natural light diffusion. This design, which won the Iron A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category in 2019, represents a significant achievement in adaptive reuse architecture, demonstrating how spatial constraints can be transformed into design opportunities while preserving historical architectural elements.
