Hugsy Multifunctional Blanket For Neonates
Hugsy Multifunctional blanket for neonates is an innovative medical design solution created to enhance neonatal care by simulating and facilitating Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. This specialized swaddling blanket represents a significant advancement in neonatal care technology, incorporating multiple functionalities to support premature infant development and mother-child bonding. The design features a sophisticated combination of materials, including a polyester-cotton blend batting encased in jogging fabric, with lycra support straps and weighted positioning bags filled with polyethylene beads. The technological integration includes an Arduino-based system for heartbeat recording and playback, comprising an FX soundboard, Mini Pro controller, amplifier, and pulse sensor, all housed in a laser-sintered 3D-printed enclosure with a vacuum-formed shell. The blanket's primary functions include stress reduction during incubator transfers, optimal positioning support during KMC sessions, and the ability to simulate maternal presence through recorded heartbeat playback and scent retention. Measuring 800mm by 350mm, the design incorporates detachable electronic components for washability while maintaining its therapeutic effectiveness. This innovative design, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design category, addresses the complex requirements of neonatal care by considering the needs of infants, mothers, and healthcare professionals. The design's significance lies in its holistic approach to facilitating KMC, which is crucial for premature infant development, while simultaneously streamlining medical care procedures and enhancing the emotional connection between mother and child.
