Huang Hotel

Huang Hotel is an architecturally significant boutique accommodation facility located in Xi'an, China, distinguished by its harmonious integration with the historic urban context and innovative spatial design. Situated merely 10 meters from the 600-year-old Ancient City Wall, this 2,002-square-meter establishment exemplifies a masterful blend of traditional Chinese architectural elements with contemporary design sensibilities. The hotel's design philosophy centers on creating an atmosphere of tranquility, comfort, and primitive simplicity while honoring oriental aesthetics. A defining feature of the property is its intimate internal courtyard, which serves as the focal point for all public areas and room entrances, maximizing natural light penetration through strategically placed glass panels with minimal mullions. The design employs a carefully curated selection of natural and unadorned materials, including wood, bronze, stone, and diatom mud, to create an environment that resonates with both antiquity and modern comfort. The property's innovative layout includes 20 guest rooms, with the ground floor featuring a thoughtfully integrated coffee shop connected to a repurposed underground bar, demonstrating exceptional space utilization. The design, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, is particularly notable for its sophisticated use of artificial fog in the courtyard, creating an ethereal atmosphere that enhances the visual connection between different spaces while maintaining privacy. The project, completed under the direction of principal architect Yun Lu, represents a significant achievement in hospitality design that successfully balances cultural heritage with contemporary functionality.
