Howard Head

Howard Head (1914-1991) was an American inventor and businessman who revolutionized the skiing industry with his innovative designs. He is widely credited with introducing the first successful metal ski, which was lighter, stronger, and more durable than traditional wooden skis. Head's metal skis quickly gained popularity and became the standard for competitive skiing. He went on to found the Head Ski Company in 1950, which later expanded to produce tennis rackets, scuba gear, and other sports equipment. Head's success in the skiing industry was due in part to his background in aeronautical engineering. He applied principles of aerodynamics to his ski designs, resulting in skis that were not only stronger and more durable, but also faster and more stable. His innovations were so successful that they were eventually adopted by the entire skiing industry, leading to a major shift away from traditional wooden skis. Despite his success, Head remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to work on new designs and innovations throughout his career, and was known for his willingness to listen to feedback from athletes and other experts in the field. He was also a passionate skier himself, and remained involved in the skiing community throughout his life. Overall, Howard Head's contributions to the skiing industry were truly groundbreaking. His innovative designs and dedication to excellence helped to transform skiing from a niche sport to a mainstream activity enjoyed by millions around the world.
