House Passage Of Landscape Residential House
House Passage of Landscape Residential House is an innovative residential architectural design that exemplifies the harmonious integration of built environment with natural landscape, created by Japanese architect Masaki Ihara. This two-story residential structure, completed in 2014 in Toyota, Aichi, Japan, features a distinctive design characterized by three gate-shaped frames that compose the wall, floor, and ceiling, layered in tiers at 650mm intervals for each direction. The design masterfully incorporates a total floor area of 99.0 square meters, with the first floor spanning 50.91 square meters and the second floor encompassing 48.02 square meters. The architectural composition creates a seamless flow between interior and exterior spaces, with the first floor's front room, living room, wood deck, and garden forming a linear progression toward the terraced paddy fields (tanada) visible from the property. The structure employs a sophisticated material palette, including FRP roofing, cedar board paneling, fiber-reinforced cement board for the gate-shaped frames, and mortar for the boxed sections. The interior features oak flooring and basswood plywood, creating visual continuity from living spaces to the outdoor deck. The innovative design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, incorporates clever solutions for natural ventilation and lighting through clerestory windows formed by the frame gaps in the second floor. The project successfully overcomes structural challenges through the integration of steel reinforcement for the timber frames' large spans, while maintaining durability through FRP waterproofing treatments for wooden elements. This architectural achievement stands as a testament to the possibility of creating meaningful connections between domestic space and surrounding landscape, offering its residents varying experiences of light, wind, sound, and sky views throughout the structure.
