House Of Silence Residential House

House Of Silence Residential House

House of Silence Residential House is an award-winning residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of modern aesthetics with traditional Zen principles, completed in 2017 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. This comprehensive renovation of a two-decade-old structure presented unique challenges, particularly in integrating pre-existing furniture while achieving a contemporary Zen ambiance. The 132-square-meter space features thoughtfully designed elements including an open-plan public area enhanced by large windows that maximize natural illumination, a custom-built wooden storage couch, and a sophisticated steel bookcase that creates a dedicated study space. The design philosophy emphasizes subtractive principles, removing unnecessary elements to create a gallery-like atmosphere that showcases the owner's art collection. The project's material palette combines warm wood textures, dark tones, and grey brick elements, creating a serene and sophisticated environment. Environmental consciousness was a key consideration, with the implementation of formaldehyde-free materials and eco-friendly adhesives throughout the construction process. The design, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design, successfully redefines Zen aesthetics in a modern context while preserving essential oriental elements. Notable features include a ventilation hall with minimalist storage solutions, flat ceilings to avoid visual oppression, and strategic three-dimensional seaming that adds subtle depth to the space. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its integration of existing furnishings, sustainable materials, and contemporary design principles, resulting in a harmonious living environment that balances functionality with aesthetic refinement.
