House Of Light Well Residence

House Of Light Well Residence

House of Light Well Residence is an innovative architectural renovation project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of natural light and spatial design in contemporary residential architecture. Located in Taiwan, this transformative project reimagines a traditional 30-meter row house by introducing a central light well that serves as the heart of the living space. The original structure, which was divided into front and rear sections, has been thoughtfully redesigned to create a dynamic living environment where various domestic activities unfold around the central courtyard. The design's most distinctive feature is its transformation of a conventional light well into an outdoor plaza-like core space, where a centrally placed tree serves as both a natural element and a spiritual symbol for the family. The architectural intervention includes the conversion of an enclosed staircase into a floating circulation element that wraps around the light well, creating multi-level platforms that accommodate diverse activities such as reading, working, exercising, and entertainment. The project demonstrates exceptional consideration for privacy and urban context, maintaining the original facade's integrity while incorporating glass brick walls that create a gradual transition between public and private spaces. The design, which won the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases innovative solutions for urban living by maximizing natural illumination and creating fluid spatial connections that enhance family interaction while preserving individual privacy.
