House In Ubrique Residential

House in Ubrique Residential is an innovative architectural project located in Ubrique, Cádiz, Spain, that masterfully reinterprets traditional Andalusian housing principles while incorporating contemporary design elements. Designed by architect Carlos Quevedo Rojas and completed in 2018, this residential structure exemplifies a sophisticated adaptation to challenging topographical conditions, situated on the edge of a historic center with a distinctive diagonal axis created by the natural slope. The design's most notable feature is its reimagining of the traditional 'zaguán' (Andalusian entrance hall), which creates a compelling transition between the bustling street and the private interior through a triple-height space adorned with floating volumes. The project demonstrates exceptional spatial organization, inverting conventional functional programming to optimize living areas while reducing buildable volume strategically to create engaging exterior spaces. The structure's main façade exhibits a thoughtful response to both practical and aesthetic considerations, featuring an austere white composite base that conceals access points and connection systems, with openings carefully positioned according to golden ratio principles and sunlight analysis. Constructed using a mixed steel and concrete structure, the building seamlessly integrates traditional Andalusian building systems with contemporary technologies, including advanced home automation, climate control, and renewable energy solutions. The project, which spans 331.65 square meters on a 111.22-square-meter site, received recognition from the A' Design Award competition for its innovative architectural approach and successful integration of historical context with modern living requirements. The design's emphasis on creating diagonal views between the peaks of Caíllo and the Valley of Aljibe, combined with its careful consideration of local architectural traditions, establishes a meaningful dialogue between contemporary design and cultural heritage.
