House In Tamatsu Residential House

House in Tamatsu Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project located in Osaka, Japan, that exemplifies creative space utilization in urban environments. Completed in 2012, this three-story timber construction masterfully addresses the challenges of a compact 43.21 square meter plot while achieving a total floor area of 94.46 square meters. The design's most distinctive feature is its dynamic second floor, which is rotated 14 degrees from the building's main axis, creating intriguing interstitial spaces between the rotated and outer walls. This architectural intervention is further enhanced by strategically placed skylights in the upper void sections, facilitating natural light penetration to the first-floor family room. The structure employs a sophisticated double-wall load-bearing system along both sides of the building, enabling the creation of an open, pillar-free family room that combines living, dining, and kitchen areas. The interior design showcases a thoughtful material palette, including pine timber flooring, plaster board walls with acrylic emulsion paint, and mortar steel troweling in wet areas. A notable feature is the box-shaped cantilevered steel plate stairs, which appear to float in the void while moderating light transmission between floors. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in residential architecture through its origami-like faceted walls and its successful integration of metaphysical concepts with physical experiences, creating a unique living environment that challenges conventional architectural language while maintaining functionality.
