House In Akashi Residential

House in Akashi Residential is a minimalist architectural masterpiece located in Akashi city, Hyogo prefecture, Japan, that exemplifies the harmonious integration of nature with contemporary living spaces. Completed in 2018, this single-story residence spans 81.07 square meters within a 172.81-square-meter site, embodying principles of traditional Japanese architecture while meeting modern lifestyle needs. The design's distinctive feature lies in its innovative three-zone division, each incorporating a purposefully designed garden that creates a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces. The first zone encompasses a Japanese-style family room with an adjacent kitchen garden, the second zone features a semi-public living and dining area with a contemplative viewing garden, and the third zone houses private bedrooms alongside a functional dry area. The structure, entirely constructed from carefully selected timber following the traditional Japanese wooden construction method 'zai rai kou hou', demonstrates exceptional sustainability credentials while maintaining optimal performance. The architectural composition prioritizes communal spaces while efficiently organizing private areas, creating an environment that promotes social interaction and tranquility. Natural illumination flows through the courtyards, while the thoughtful arrangement of spaces allows residents to experience the changing seasons through carefully framed views of plants, soil, wind, and sky. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category represents a sophisticated solution to contemporary urban living, successfully incorporating essential living spaces and artistic elements within compact dimensions of 11,250mm x 9,100mm x 3,570mm, while maintaining privacy through strategic placement of surrounding walls and gardens.
