Hotel Locus Hotel is an innovative architectural and interior design project located in Miyakojima, Japan, facing the island's main port and embodying a revolutionary approach to resort hospitality. This six-story establishment, completed in 2017, represents a paradigm shift in resort design philosophy by treating the entire island as an extended resort experience rather than confining amenities within its walls. The structure features 100 guest rooms varying from compact single accommodations to spacious family suites, complemented by thoughtfully designed common areas including a ground-floor swimming pool, activity lounge, and a second-floor restaurant with reception facilities. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its harmonious integration of local cultural elements and natural surroundings, exemplified through the extensive use of indigenous materials such as Ryukyu limestone for the reception counter and traditional flower blocks in the exterior façade. The architectural composition deliberately maintains a delicate balance between modern comfort and regional authenticity, incorporating local artisans' works and traditional kuba artworks throughout the space. The hotel's design philosophy emphasizes creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces, maximizing views of the natural environment while reinterpreting traditional Miyako crafts with contemporary design sensibilities. This innovative approach to hospitality design earned the project a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its excellence in spatial planning, cultural integration, and sustainable design practices.
