Hong Kong Day Restaurant is an innovative spatial design project that exemplifies the seamless integration of cultural elements within contemporary dining environments. This 270-square-meter establishment represents a sophisticated interpretation of Hong Kong's cultural heritage through its thoughtful interior design, particularly drawing inspiration from the traditional game of Mahjong. The design concept ingeniously incorporates various elements of Mahjong gameplay into the architectural and decorative elements, utilizing different shades of green to subtly evoke the appearance of Mahjong tiles, while circle patterns from the game's tiles serve as recurring motifs throughout the furniture and decorative elements. The restaurant's spatial organization reflects the mathematical combinations found in Mahjong through carefully arranged groupings of spotlights and hexagonal mosaic floor patterns. The design successfully overcomes the challenge of presenting a frequently-used theme in an unconventional manner, employing custom-made furniture and decorations to create a unique dining atmosphere. The material palette includes fabric, Corian solid surfacing material, stainless steel, mosaic, and plastic laminate, all thoughtfully selected to enhance the contemporary interpretation of traditional elements. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional achievement in creating an immersive dining experience that celebrates Hong Kong's cultural identity while maintaining modern design sensibilities.
