Hong Guang Hotel

Hong Guang Hotel is an exemplary architectural and interior design project located in Wuhan, China, that masterfully integrates contemporary design language with oriental aesthetic principles. Completed in June 2019, this sophisticated hospitality space encompasses a 600-square-meter lobby area with a 3.5-meter height, demonstrating a harmonious blend of modern luxury and traditional Chinese architectural elements. The design, conceived by Lichen Ding and team, employs a traditional courtyard three-way hierarchical relationship as its foundational concept, creating a unified state between the lobby, aisle, and lobby bar areas. The space is distinguished by its innovative use of gray spaces divided by linear elements along the corridor, which effectively manages the transition between large and medium spaces while incorporating the stepped progression characteristic of oriental aesthetics. The interior design draws inspiration from classical Chinese gardens, utilizing staggered artistic techniques to establish a spatial order that achieves both magnificence and the subtle elegance associated with Jiangnan gardens. Materials including wood finishes, cloth, stainless steel wire, metal, and stone are thoughtfully incorporated to create a sophisticated atmosphere that responds to contemporary elite Chinese sensibilities. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, successfully overcomes the challenge of balancing ritualistic dignity with natural harmony, while efficiently managing simultaneous survey, design, and construction processes. The hotel's design philosophy emphasizes the relationship between time, space, nature, and human interaction, creating an artistic expression that captures the essence of modern oriental design language while maintaining functional efficiency for its more than 300 rooms.
