Hitobito Art Installation
Hitobito Art Installation is a significant architectural art installation created for the 2023 lantern festival in Taipei City, specifically designed for the new immigrant district in Song Shan Cultural Park. The installation, conceived by designers Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, along with team members Jenny Yeh and Hao Sung, represents a masterful fusion of traditional Asian craftsmanship and contemporary architectural design. Standing at 9.8 meters wide, 7.8 meters deep, and 3.5 meters high, the structure draws inspiration from the Chinese character representing a person, symbolizing mutual support through its dual-entrance design. The installation's innovative construction combines manually bent steel pipe structures with intricately woven bamboo dowels, creating an organic, three-dimensional curvature that exemplifies the harmonious integration of industrial materials with traditional Asian bamboo crafting techniques. The installation's design philosophy centers on celebrating cultural diversity and community gathering, featuring two small entrances that merge into a unified space where visitors can experience projected motion graphics. During nighttime, the structure is illuminated with warm lighting, creating an immersive environment that synchronizes visitors' emotional states with the space. The installation, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining artistic vision with architectural functionality, serving as a testament to the evolution of contemporary public art installations that bridge cultural traditions with modern design sensibilities.
