Hinemosu 30 Computer Display is an innovative computer display system that revolutionizes digital information visualization through the manipulation of physical elastic bands. This groundbreaking device, designed by Yuichiro Katsumoto, employs five white elastic bands controlled by thirty actuators to create dynamic visual representations, marking a significant departure from traditional pixel-based displays. The system, measuring 280mm x 120mm x 300mm, transforms digital data into kinetic typography and motion graphics by precisely controlling the twisting and manipulation of the elastic bands, which measure 250mm in length, 40mm in width, and 1mm in thickness. The display's unique approach to visualization relies on line-based rather than dot-based representation, creating fluid, organic movements that can evoke natural phenomena such as ocean waves, mountain storms, and falling snow. The mechanical architecture includes six white plastic guides attached horizontally to each band at 42mm intervals, connected to servo motors that can adjust the band orientation between approximately -60 to 90 degrees, effectively varying the apparent thickness of the lines. This platinum A' Design Award-winning creation represents a significant advancement in generative and parametric design, combining mechanical engineering with algorithmic control to create a novel form of information display.
