Hide And Climb Residence
Hide and Climb Residence is an innovative residential interior design project that reimagines contemporary living spaces by integrating multifunctional elements, including rock climbing features, within a domestic environment. Completed in 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan, this 110-square-meter dwelling represents a revolutionary approach to modern habitation, addressing the evolving needs of urban living in response to increasing population density and technological advancement. The design, conceived by architects Maggie Yang and Jimmy Yung, alongside Tina Liao, employs a tree house aesthetic to maintain the fundamental warmth of traditional homes while incorporating dynamic activity zones for work, study, recreation, and daily living. The project's distinctive feature is its integrated climbing wall, thoughtfully designed to promote children's physical development, spatial awareness, and confidence building through repeated engagement. Constructed primarily from birch plywood, the space demonstrates exceptional versatility through its adaptive layout, which can be modified as occupants age - particularly evident in the tree house element that can transition from a play space to a wardrobe as children mature. The design earned recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial organization and its successful integration of traditional domestic functions with contemporary lifestyle requirements. The project's significance lies in its holistic approach to residential design, addressing not only immediate functional needs but also incorporating elements that support physical development, cognitive growth, and long-term adaptability, while maintaining aesthetic cohesion through carefully considered material selection and organic form integration.
