Herbert Spencer
Herbert Spencer (1820-1903) was a British philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist who was one of the most prominent thinkers of the 19th century. He is best known for his theory of Social Darwinism, which applied the principles of natural selection to human society. Spencer believed that societies, like organisms, evolved over time and that the fittest societies survived while the weaker ones died out. He argued that government intervention in social and economic affairs was harmful and that individuals should be left to pursue their own interests without interference. Spencer's ideas were influential in the development of laissez-faire capitalism and libertarianism.
