HEGDE CHAIR Chair Seating
HEGDE CHAIR Chair Seating is an innovative furniture design that seamlessly integrates transparency and nature, creating a unique outdoor seating experience. This groundbreaking design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, features a chair constructed entirely from toughened glass, positioned above growing hedges to create an illusion of floating above natural vegetation. The design emerged from a thoughtful response to the common problem of traditional outdoor furniture obstructing the visual appeal of landscaped spaces. The chair's dimensions of 820 x 685 x 840 millimeters are carefully calculated based on thorough ergonomic studies to ensure optimal user comfort. The construction involves precision-cut glass panels that undergo a specialized toughening process for safety, joined together using transparent adhesive and infrared curing technology. A distinctive feature of the design is its integration with living elements through a 100mm high cement block base that houses soil and supports hedge growth, complemented by an integrated drip irrigation system for plant maintenance. The transparent nature of the chair allows it to harmonize with its surroundings while providing users with a thrilling sensory experience of appearing to sit directly on the hedges. This design represents a significant innovation in outdoor furniture design, challenging conventional approaches by prioritizing environmental integration and visual lightness while maintaining functional integrity and structural stability. The research and development process involved extensive material studies and practical experiments in glass workshops, resulting in a design that successfully balances aesthetic appeal, durability, and ecological consciousness.
