Heat Recovery Ventilators
Heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) are mechanical ventilation systems that are designed to provide fresh air to a building while simultaneously recovering the heat from the outgoing stale air. HRVs work by using a heat exchanger to transfer heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air, which helps to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat or cool the building. This makes HRVs an energy-efficient solution for improving indoor air quality and reducing energy costs. HRVs are typically installed in residential and commercial buildings where there is a need for mechanical ventilation. They are particularly useful in buildings that are tightly sealed, such as those that are well-insulated, as they can help to prevent the buildup of harmful pollutants and moisture. HRVs can also help to reduce the risk of condensation and mold growth, which can be a problem in buildings with poor ventilation. There are several types of HRVs available on the market, including cross-flow, counter-flow, and rotary heat exchangers. Cross-flow heat exchangers are the most common type of HRV and work by transferring heat between two air streams that flow in opposite directions. Counter-flow heat exchangers work in a similar way but use a more efficient design to transfer heat. Rotary heat exchangers, on the other hand, use a rotating wheel to transfer heat between the two air streams. Overall, HRVs are an effective way to improve indoor air quality and reduce energy costs in buildings. They are particularly useful in buildings that are tightly sealed and require mechanical ventilation to prevent the buildup of harmful pollutants and moisture.
