Haus Am See Residential House
Haus Am See Residential House is an exemplary residential architecture project that masterfully integrates modern sustainable design with natural surroundings, completed in 2020 in Potsdam, Germany. This passive house, distinguished by its innovative approach to environmental integration, features a sophisticated steel skeleton structure supported by 40 diagonal stilts distributed across 10 individual foundations, creating a floating effect above the preserved terraces. The 610-square-meter residence, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to its environment, particularly in its relationship with the existing ancient trees and lakefront setting. The structure's design philosophy emphasizes the harmonious coexistence of architecture and nature, evidenced by the incorporation of a mature maple tree growing through the living space and the strategic positioning of 3-meter-high, 7-meter-wide sliding windows that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. The building employs sustainable materials throughout, including pine wood for ceilings, floors, and walls, cellulose fiber insulation, and vertical larch slats for the facade, complemented by extensive green roofing. The heart of the home features a spacious kitchen-dining area with a 7.5-meter olive wood table, designed to accommodate a family of six children while offering the flexibility to be divided into three separate units for future adaptability. The loggia, positioned 8 meters above the water surface, provides inhabitants with unique perspectives of the local wildlife, including herons, swans, and otters, while custom-built cabinetry and an elevator ensure both aesthetic cohesion and accessibility throughout the space.
