Hanuri Korean Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Korean aesthetics with contemporary spatial design principles. Located in Shimbashi, Tokyo, this 120-square-meter establishment, designed by Yusuke Yamada, masterfully integrates elements of East Asian residential architecture into a modern dining space. The restaurant's distinctive design philosophy emphasizes openness and spatial continuity, featuring thoughtfully arranged private rooms, counters, sofas, and booths partitioned by low dividers that maintain visual connection with the cityscape through floor-to-ceiling windows. The design's sophisticated balance is achieved through the intentional introduction of curved elements within a linear framework, while the careful consideration of furniture height and partition placement eliminates any sense of ceiling constraint, creating an illusion of unlimited space. The interior's aesthetic draws inspiration from traditional Korean hanbok costumes, incorporating a vibrant color palette of reds, blues, and greens through gradient glass pendant lighting that transitions elegantly to transparency at the upper ends. The 56-seat venue showcases meticulous material selection, including plaster, oak, and tile, while the strategic placement of storage furniture, central bench, and ceiling decorations reflects a modern interpretation of East Asian architectural elements. This exemplary design project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, demonstrates exceptional achievement in spatial organization, cultural integration, and atmospheric design, creating an immersive dining environment that celebrates Korean culinary culture while embracing contemporary design sensibilities.
