Hans Purrmann
Hans Purrmann was a German artist, best known for his intensely expressive and colorful works based on his impressions of the Mediterranean. Born in 1880 in Speyer, Germany, he was originally apprenticed by his father, a goldsmith and sculptor. After his apprenticeship, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he developed a modernist style and a deep understanding of color. Purrmann’s work was exhibited in Germany and abroad and he received several awards in his lifetime, including the Grand Prix of the Paris Exposition in 1937. His works are characterized by broad brushstrokes and a vibrant use of color, and his most famous works include Santa Maria della Salute, After the Rain, and Mountain Landscape with Red House.
