Hanga Water Filter Pitcher
hanga Water Filter Pitcher is an innovative sustainable water filtration solution that combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary functionality. Designed by Balázs Tóth, this environmentally conscious product represents a harmonious fusion of Hungarian pottery heritage and modern water purification technology. The pitcher is crafted from locally sourced terracotta, featuring a partially glazed surface and an integrated exchangeable activated carbon filter system that effectively reduces water impurities and enhances taste quality. Its distinctive design leverages the natural properties of unglazed terracotta, which allows minimal water evaporation through its porous walls, naturally maintaining cool water temperature without requiring refrigeration. The design, measuring 185mm x 235mm x 270mm, draws inspiration from the traditional Hungarian 'aratokorso' water jug historically used by agricultural workers. This contemporary interpretation maintains cultural relevance while addressing modern environmental concerns through its sustainable production approach and materials. The manufacturing process involves local artisan potters, supporting traditional craftsmanship while adapting it to meet contemporary needs. The pitcher's innovative features earned it recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, acknowledging its contribution to environmentally conscious design solutions. The product exemplifies a localized approach to global sustainability challenges, incorporating biodegradable components and emphasizing the importance of traditional craft in modern sustainable design.
