Hand Made Nanning Mixc Store is an innovative retail interior design project completed in Nanning, China, that masterfully blends traditional Asian architectural elements with contemporary spatial design principles. The 130-square-meter space, designed by Denver Hsu and team in 2020, represents a sophisticated interpretation of tranquility within urban retail environments. The design philosophy centers on creating a peaceful sanctuary amidst metropolitan bustle, incorporating traditional elements such as eaves-inspired structures and natural materials including logs, washed stone, and bronze finishes. The space is thoughtfully divided into distinct functional areas: dining space, kitchen, electric room, open kitchen, and hallway, with a particular emphasis on transparency and authenticity through its full open cooking layout. The design's architectural language makes clever use of cylindrical forms, screens, and suspended elements to create visual interest, while the curved central screen serves to modulate light and shadow, establishing dynamic spatial relationships. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional material selection and spatial organization. Its design narrative draws inspiration from traditional Asian architectural elements, particularly the symbolic significance of eaves in providing shelter and companionship, while employing a refined color palette dominated by light wood tones, gray natural marble, and white surfaces to create an atmosphere of understated elegance.
