Hainan Yitu Deer Drinking Stream Model House
Hainan Yitu Deer Drinking Stream Model House is an innovative architectural renovation project located in Dumiao Village, Wenchang City, Hainan Province, China, that transformed a century-old abandoned house into a sophisticated model residence spanning 550 square meters. This remarkable transformation, designed by Li Shuai, seamlessly integrates contemporary design elements with traditional architecture, featuring dual thematic spaces: an ocean-inspired front yard symbolizing whales entering the sea, and a forest-themed backyard depicting a serene scene of deer drinking from a stream. The design incorporates modern materials such as mirror stainless steel, lake blue metal plates, crystal brick, and U-shaped glass to create a striking contrast with the historical structure while addressing the region's humidity challenges through careful waterproofing solutions. The space is thoughtfully divided into distinct functional areas including a water scenic area, mountain green area, water bar area, awning leisure area, and children's bunker area, all interconnected through sophisticated visual borrowing techniques. A distinctive white metal plate sailing ship design element is integrated into the structure, symbolizing the progressive journey of Hainan's rural development. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, exemplifies innovative spatial design through its careful balance of functional requirements with aesthetic considerations, creating an environment that serves both as a comfortable living space and a showcase of contemporary architectural possibilities within historical contexts.
