Haci Bekir Halva Packaging is an innovative packaging design solution that reimagines traditional Turkish confectionery presentation for contemporary markets, created by designer Polin Kuyumciyan. This design project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, represents a significant evolution in food packaging design by successfully bridging historical legacy with modern aesthetic sensibilities. The packaging features distinctive geometric patterns inspired by the texture and ingredients of different halva varieties: straight lines for plain halva suggesting smoothness, wave patterns for cocoa-flavored variants indicating richness, and zigzag designs for pistachio versions representing crunchiness. The design utilizes a carton sleeve system measuring 141 x 302 mm that envelops a plastic container, enhancing both presentation and functionality. Bold, vibrant color choices were strategically implemented to appeal to younger demographics while maintaining brand heritage, demonstrating an exemplary balance between tradition and contemporary design principles. The project, completed between December 2019 and February 2020 in Istanbul, showcases innovative pattern work and color psychology to create visual differentiation between product variants while maintaining cohesive brand identity. This packaging solution effectively addresses the challenge of modernizing a traditional confectionery product's presentation while preserving its cultural significance, representing a noteworthy achievement in commercial packaging design that combines aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
