H Home Residential is an innovative interior design project completed in Taiwan in 2022, exemplifying a sophisticated approach to contemporary living spaces through its masterful integration of materials and spatial planning. The 165.2-square-meter residence, designed by Hung Yu Chen, showcases a remarkable transformation of traditional residential boundaries through the strategic use of sliding doors and metallic elements. The design's distinctive feature lies in its extensive incorporation of metal, particularly the woven metal mesh that creates a striking visual extension effect when combined with kitchen cabinetry. The project's spatial composition includes three bedrooms, two living rooms, and two bathrooms, thoughtfully arranged to maximize functionality while maintaining aesthetic coherence. A notable design solution addresses the challenge of a narrow space between the living room and kitchen by implementing sliding doors that simultaneously define and connect different areas. The material palette demonstrates exceptional sophistication, combining steel stone flooring in public areas with chamfered hand-scraped wood flooring in private spaces, while the innovative use of stainless steel woven mesh and moru glass in sliding doors creates dynamic light interactions throughout the space. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, particularly excels in its treatment of natural light, allowing it to interact with metallic surfaces to create ever-changing textural effects. The oxidized metal elements introduce a humanistic quality to the otherwise cool-toned environment, while warm lighting strategically transforms storage elements into artistic features, exemplifying the project's success in balancing functionality with aesthetic sophistication.
