Hé Multipurpose Stool is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of functionality and cultural symbolism, created by Singaporean designer Lee Teng Sheng Jason. This transformable seating solution, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, addresses the spatial constraints of contemporary living environments while promoting social interaction. The design's distinctive feature lies in its ability to seamlessly transition between a single stool and dual seating arrangement through an ingenious sliding mechanism. When extended, the stool accommodates two people in close proximity, fostering intimate conversations and social bonding, while its compact form when closed serves as a singular seating unit or side table. Inspired by the traditional twin cup used in Taiwanese indigenous ceremonies, the design incorporates both cultural heritage and modern practicality. The stool's dimensions of 450W x 350D x 500H mm (closed) expanding to 800W x 350D x 500H mm (open) demonstrate its space-efficient nature. Crafted from premium woods such as Ash, Oak, or Pine using CNC technology, the stool showcases exceptional material integration and manufacturing precision. The design's conceptual depth is further enhanced by its representation of cultural unity, symbolizing the harmonious relationship between Hans and Indigenous populations in Taiwan.
