Gymnastic Horizontal Bars

Gymnastic horizontal bars, also known as the high bar, is a men's artistic gymnastics apparatus that requires immense strength, coordination, and skill. The horizontal bar is a long, narrow, and elevated metal bar that is suspended by cables at both ends. The gymnast performs a variety of acrobatic movements, swings, and releases while gripping the bar with their hands. The routine on the horizontal bars is judged based on the difficulty of the skills performed, the execution of those skills, and the overall presentation. The gymnast begins their routine by mounting the bar and performing a series of swings, circles, and handstands. They may also perform release moves, where they let go of the bar and perform a somersault or twist before re-grabbing the bar. These release moves are some of the most exciting and visually impressive elements of the routine. The gymnast may also perform giant swings, where they swing around the bar in a full circle, either forwards or backwards. The horizontal bar routine requires immense upper body strength, particularly in the shoulders, arms, and back. Gymnasts must also have excellent coordination and body control to execute the complex movements required on the bar. The routine is typically set to music and lasts between 50 and 70 seconds.
