Gushu Fire Station

Gushu Fire Station is an exemplary architectural project completed in 2020, situated at the intersection of Gushu 2nd Road and Guxing Road in Bao'an District, Shenzhen, China, representing a significant advancement in standardized fire station design. This grade-1 fire station, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, encompasses a gross floor area of 5,120.87 square meters and accommodates eight fire trucks within its efficiently designed space. The architectural composition features a distinctive four-story main building complemented by a seven-story training tower, utilizing a uniform column network of 8.4m x 10.2m with standardized floor heights of 6 meters for fire engine garages and 3.9 meters for duty rooms. The design, masterfully conceived by Zhong Zhong, Ma Yue, and Zhong Botao, employs innovative approaches including materials contrast, block insertion, and folding panel combinations to create an integrated and compact building form that harmoniously balances architectural function with aesthetic appeal. Notable features include strategically placed facade openings, partly elevated floors, sky gardens, and grilles specifically designed to adapt to Lingnan's hot and rainy climate conditions. The project incorporates sustainable elements such as a rooftop garden and concave green areas for effective rainwater management, while its square and forceful architectural form projects a sense of solemnity and vigilance befitting its role as a guardian of the industrial area. Despite the challenges posed by limited plot area and surrounding industrial buildings, the design successfully implements a centralized layout that optimizes space utilization while maintaining operational efficiency, serving as an exemplar for future fire station construction projects.
