Grand Mercure Dongguan Humen Business Hotel
Grand Mercure Dongguan Humen Business Hotel is an exemplary business hotel renovation project located in Dongguan Humen, China, that masterfully transforms a conventional business accommodation into a sophisticated boutique-style establishment through innovative interior design. The project, completed in December 2013, embraces a Lively Metropolis design concept inspired by mutualism and energy, incorporating subtle curved lines and yellow dancing orchids as key design elements. The 700-square-meter lobby area serves as the centerpiece of the transformation, featuring illuminated curved staircases and modern chandelier modules that create a striking double-ceiling focal point. The interior space demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection, combining polished linear grain natural stones with glazed elements, while the seating arrangements follow a distinctive circular pool-like configuration that mirrors the dark mirrored ceiling above. Natural light management is achieved through a thoughtful combination of shutters and glazed curtain walls, complemented by strategic LED lighting placement. The design team, led by Arthur Wing Fat Chan and supported by Gavin Hsu and Byron To, successfully created a warm atmosphere through the careful balance of neutral shades and vibrant yellow accents, particularly evident in the dancing orchid motifs throughout the space. This innovative redesign, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2015, demonstrates excellence in spatial planning, lighting design, and material selection while maintaining functionality for its 242-room business hotel operation.
