Golden Moon Public Event Space
Golden Moon Public Event Space is a remarkable architectural installation that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary digital design techniques. This innovative 6-storey-high spherical structure, conceived as a modern interpretation of the Chinese lantern, draws inspiration from the legend of Chang'e, the Moon Goddess of Immortality, creating a captivating public event space that celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival. The structure employs a sophisticated combination of materials including steel, bamboo, and stretch fabric, featuring a geodesic dome as its primary framework overlaid with a computer-generated grid system. The pavilion's distinctive design incorporates traditional bamboo scaffolding techniques indigenous to Hong Kong, seamlessly integrated with precise digital fabrication methods. The structure's exterior is adorned with 470 fabric flames in eight graduated colors, ranging from ivory and yellow to intense orange and deep bordeaux, creating a dynamic visual experience enhanced by animated LED lighting. The installation's geometry follows a complex algorithm for sphere panelization, producing a systematic pattern around the equator that gradually transforms into organic irregularity at the poles. This award-winning design, recognized with the Platinum A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in temporary architecture, accommodating up to 150 visitors simultaneously and featuring a sophisticated sound and light spectacle that alternates between choreographed shows and nature-inspired flocking patterns, creating an immersive experience that transforms the space into a contemporary cultural landmark.
