Gluck Cafe Commercial Space is an innovative commercial interior design project completed in 2017, situated along a riverbank in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates organic food service, artistic elements, and thoughtful interior design within a 65-square-meter space. The design concept, inspired by its riverside location and the German word Gluck meaning luck and happiness, creates a meaningful societal space that deepens visitors' connection to lifestyle and aesthetic economy. The interior architecture employs a sophisticated loop-shaped circulation pattern that symbolizes the natural cycle of life, featuring distinct material transitions from cement powder flooring in the front to wooden surfaces in the rear, creating a harmonious dialogue between human interaction and natural elements. The space's aesthetic is characterized by a grey-blue color palette that reflects the natural hues of the river and sky, complemented by strategic use of natural materials including marble, cement, wood, and steel. The design incorporates large glass facades that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, making the natural surroundings an integral part of the experience. A significant architectural feature is the centrally positioned chandelier, designed to evoke imagery of branches and birds, reinforcing the theme of natural coexistence. The layout consists of two primary zones: an outer square housing display stands and bar seating, and an inner Nakajima working area containing essential kitchen equipment and service counters. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project successfully transformed a 30-year-old commercial space into a contemporary compound that seamlessly integrates café services, cultural elements, and retail functions while addressing technical challenges such as water damage and exposed pipeline issues through innovative design solutions.
