Glasses Plus Interchangeable Cover Frame

Glasses Plus Interchangeable Cover Frame

Glasses Plus Interchangeable Cover Frame is an innovative eyewear design solution that revolutionizes the traditional approach to prescription glasses by introducing a modular system consisting of a base frame with interchangeable decorative covers. This ingenious design, created by Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng, addresses both functional and aesthetic aspects of eyewear, allowing users to maintain a single pair of prescription lenses while varying their aesthetic appearance through magnetically attached cover frames. The system employs a sophisticated yet straightforward mechanism where the base frame houses the prescription lenses, while various decorative covers can be easily attached and detached, enabling users to adapt their eyewear to different occasions, moods, or style preferences. Manufactured using injection-molded plastic with custom paint finishes, the design measures 140mm in width and 4mm in thickness, offering a sleek and contemporary profile. The innovation particularly resonates with fashion-conscious individuals who view eyewear as an essential component of their personal style expression, effectively eliminating the need to purchase multiple complete pairs of prescription glasses. This cost-effective and space-efficient solution earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, acknowledging its contribution to both practical functionality and aesthetic customization in eyewear design. The project, developed between October and December 2015, represents a significant advancement in addressing the contemporary challenges of eyewear customization, storage efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high standards of style and practicality.
