Georg Friedrich Kersting
Georg Friedrich Kersting was a prominent artist of the German Romanticism movement in the 19th century. He was born in 1785 in Güstrow, Germany, and studied under the tutelage of the renowned painter, Philipp Otto Runge. Kersting's works are characterized by their sensitivity and poetic approach to everyday life, particularly of the working class. He was known for his ability to capture the nuances of human emotion and expression, as well as his delicate attention to detail in his compositions. Kersting's paintings often featured scenes of people engaged in daily activities, such as gardening or going to work, and his landscapes were highly regarded for their realistic depictions of the natural environment. He was also skilled in portraiture, and his portraits were praised for their ability to capture the essence of the subject's personality. Despite his talent and recognition during his lifetime, Kersting's work fell out of favor in the years following his death in 1847. However, his legacy has since been rediscovered and his works are now highly regarded for their influence on later artists and their contribution to the development of German Romanticism.
