Gato Commercial Space

Gato Commercial Space

Gato Commercial Space is an exemplary interior design project that masterfully transforms a 112-square-meter commercial venue into a sophisticated multi-functional establishment, showcasing a harmonious blend of classical and contemporary design elements. Located in Taiwan and completed in 2020, this innovative space was designed by Hung-Yuan Hsu, who successfully overcame the challenges of a forty-year-old building's structural limitations to create an elegant environment that serves multiple purposes, including a high-end shoe retail area, bar, café, and cigar collection space. The design's distinctive character emerges from its thoughtful integration of classical antique elements with modern aesthetics, featuring herringbone flooring, copper-colored faux rust piping, and Italian terrazzo stone that contribute to its timeless appeal. The space employs a sophisticated material palette including laminate flooring, special Italian paint, solid wood veneer ceilings, and carved mirrors, creating an atmosphere that perfectly complements the luxury leather goods on display. Despite the original building's limiting 2.7-meter ceiling height, the designer ingeniously maintained spatial openness while incorporating vintage elements and strategic lighting solutions that create distinct atmospheres for day and night operations. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, is particularly notable for its clever space planning that allows for smooth circulation through various functional zones while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic identity enhanced by carefully curated art pieces and red accent elements that create striking visual contrast against the classical backdrop.
