Gather Market Supermarket

Gather Market Supermarket

Gather Market Supermarket is an innovative retail space design that masterfully blends Eastern and Western architectural elements, exemplifying a revolutionary approach to contemporary Chinese supermarket design. The project, completed in 2018 under the creative direction of Anne Qin, draws profound inspiration from the historical Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival painting from the Song dynasty, incorporating traditional Chinese market aesthetics into a modern retail environment. The design's distinctive feature lies in its sophisticated integration of traditional Oriental architectural elements, particularly the mortise and tenon structural components, which are thoughtfully implemented throughout the space's fixtures, shelving systems, and decorative elements. The 4-meter-high primary space, complemented by a strategically designed 248-square-meter lower-height area dedicated to a snack section, demonstrates exceptional space utilization and functional planning. The design language emphasizes cultural synthesis, employing bamboo motifs as a central theme in both the visual identity and physical design elements, symbolizing growth and progress while maintaining cultural authenticity. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category represents a significant departure from conventional Western-influenced supermarket designs, establishing a new paradigm for culturally resonant retail spaces. The meticulous attention to detail is evident in the carefully selected lighting solutions, ground materials, and architectural finishes, which underwent extensive refinement during the project's fifteen-month development period, resulting in a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic sophistication.
