Gateway Park Gateway Park As Landmark
Gateway Park Gateway Park as Landmark is an innovative urban landscape design project that exemplifies the integration of climate-responsive architecture and ecological sustainability in public space development. Located in Taichung, this expansive park spans approximately 4 kilometers from north to south, incorporating sophisticated topographical engineering to moderate the region's tropical humid climate. The design, conceived by Catherine Mosbach in collaboration with Philippe Rahm, creates distinct wellness resorts and activity zones that effectively address environmental challenges such as heat, humidity, and pollution through natural and technological solutions. The park's distinctive features include carefully crafted topographic beds that serve dual purposes - functioning as dry recreational spaces during regular weather and transforming into water retention basins during monsoon seasons, creating an dynamic landscape that shifts between meadowlands and water features. The project encompasses multiple specialized zones including Play Lands, Leisure Lands, and Sport Lands, totaling over 98,200 square meters of programmed space. The design's ecological commitment is evidenced by the integration of over 10,571 new trees, 1,741 transplanted existing trees, and nearly 600,000 shrubs and flowers, creating a comprehensive green infrastructure. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Urban Planning and Urban Design category demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to lithosphere design, combining water management, topography, and soil engineering with atmospheric considerations to create distinct microclimate zones. The park's design emphasizes the creation of comfortable outdoor environments through the strategic placement of installations and landscape features, offering visitors varied experiences ranging from intimate protective spaces to vast open horizons, while simultaneously addressing crucial environmental challenges through sustainable design solutions.
