Galaktika Armchair

Galaktika Armchair

Galaktika Armchair is an innovative dual-function seating solution designed by Bulgarian designer Vasil Velchev, specifically engineered for airport VIP lounges and public spaces where extended comfort is paramount. Distinguished by its spherical aesthetic elements and versatile functionality, this sophisticated piece of furniture seamlessly transitions between sitting and resting positions to accommodate varying user needs. The design's most striking feature is its adaptable configuration, complemented by a rotatable upper bar engineered for attaching electronic devices, addressing the modern traveler's technological requirements. Standing at 1270mm in height, 1290mm in length, and 1130mm in width, the armchair showcases premium materials including chrome-plated or powder-coated metal bars, robust steel legs, and a half-spherical wooden structure luxuriously upholstered in leather. The internal zone features soft materials combined with velvet upholstery, ensuring optimal comfort. The sophisticated switching mechanism, while presenting the project's primary technical challenge, enables seamless transition between positions, demonstrating exceptional engineering prowess. This innovative design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018, represents a significant advancement in public space furniture design, particularly for high-end airport environments. The chair's development, completed over a three-month period in Bulgaria, involved extensive research to ensure originality while maintaining practical functionality, resulting in a unique piece that harmoniously combines aesthetic appeal with utilitarian purpose.
