Fuzhou Zhimu Spa

Fuzhou Zhimu Spa is an award-winning interior design project completed in 2019, located on the third floor of an office building in Fuzhou, China, encompassing 2,361 square meters of thoughtfully crafted space that masterfully integrates local cultural elements with contemporary design principles. The spa's design philosophy draws profound inspiration from Fuzhou's rich cultural heritage, particularly its millennia-old tea culture and deep connection to bamboo, creating a serene sanctuary that offers respite from urban life. The entrance sequence features a distinctive rectangular pathway leading through a natural landscape, deliberately designed to create a transitional journey that helps visitors shed the chaos of the outside world. The reception area employs a harmonious material palette of stone, wood, and metal, unified through a carefully controlled color scheme, with a focal point created by an atmospheric bamboo painting that simulates the experience of exploring a misty mountain forest. The project, designed by Chuanjin Sun along with team members Qiang Hu and Hangdi Xu, overcame significant technical challenges related to fire protection and HVAC integration while maintaining aesthetic integrity. The design's excellence was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial design and cultural integration. The project exemplifies a successful balance between functional requirements and aesthetic aspirations, incorporating sustainable design practices and creating an immersive experience that promotes wellness and cultural appreciation through its thoughtful interpretation of traditional elements in a contemporary context.
